Privacy notice
Last updated: 3 November 2026
This notice explains what personal information davidcampbellbooks.com collects, why, and what you can do about it. The website is run by David A. Campbell through DA & KL Campbell Enterprises (ABN 15 204 748 010), based in Queensland, Australia. We aim to handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles and the Spam Act 2003, and to respect the rights of readers in other countries, including the European Union and United Kingdom.
What we collect, and why
When you request a free book
- Your email address, and your first name if you choose to give it.
- Which free book you asked for, when, and which file formats you downloaded.
- A shortened, scrambled version of your network address, used only to stop abuse. We never store your full IP address.
We use this to deliver the book, send you a download link, and let you request a new link if it expires. Asking for a free book does not sign you up for marketing emails.
When you choose to receive news and new-release emails
- Your email address, first name (optional) and the series you are interested in.
- A record of your consent: what you agreed to, when, and where.
You will receive a confirmation email first; nothing else is sent until you confirm. Newsletter subscriptions are managed through MailerLite (see below). You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.
When you use the contact form
- Your name, email address and message, used only to read and reply to it.
When you browse the website
- Anonymous, aggregated statistics: which pages are viewed, the name of the referring website, any campaign tag in the link you followed, and the general type of device (mobile, tablet or desktop). No cookies are used for this, no IP addresses are stored, and no advertising or social-media trackers are used. If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, your page views aren't counted at all.
- Clicks on links to book retailers are counted (as clicks, not purchases).
Cookies
The website does not use advertising, tracking or analytics cookies. A short-lived cookie is set on the free-book download page so your download works, and the site owner's dashboard uses sign-in cookies. None of these are used to track you across websites.
Who else handles your information
- IONOS Inc. — hosts the website, its database and our email, in data centres in the United States. Emails we send to you (such as download links) are sent from our IONOS mailbox.
- MailerLite (MailerLite UAB, Lithuania) — only if you subscribe to news emails. MailerLite may store data in the European Union and the United States.
- Retailers such as Amazon — if you follow a link to buy a book, the retailer's own privacy policy applies.
- Substack — if you subscribe to the separate fiction newsletter on Substack, that subscription is handled entirely by Substack under its own policy. We never move subscribers between Substack and our own newsletter.
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. Some of these providers are located outside Australia; we choose providers that protect personal information to a comparable standard.
How long we keep it
| Information | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Free-book requests (no newsletter signup) | 90 days after your last request, then made anonymous |
| Unconfirmed newsletter signups | 14 days, then deleted |
| Newsletter subscription | Until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it |
| Consent records | For as long as you are subscribed, plus two years |
| Download records | 12 months, then reduced to anonymous totals |
| Contact-form messages | 30 days on the website (replies stay in our email) |
| Anonymous statistics | Daily totals are kept; raw events are deleted after 90 days |
Your choices and rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted, and you can withdraw consent to emails at any time. Email contact@davidcampbellbooks.com. We will respond within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au). Readers in the EU or UK may also contact their local data-protection authority.
Security
The website uses encrypted connections (HTTPS), stores passwords and download links only in scrambled form, limits repeated requests, and restricts the dashboard to the site owner with two-factor sign-in. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Children
The website is intended for adult readers. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16.
Changes
If this notice changes in a meaningful way, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, let newsletter subscribers know.
